  • After Newport Creamery closed, the ROMEO (Retired Old Men Eating Out) breakfast group moved their weekly meeting to Cranston Diner and will gather every Wednesday at 9 a.m. to share conversation and coffee in their new spot.  10 WJAR

CULTURE NEWS

  • Newport Festivals Foundation supports music in Rhode Island by offering free lessons and running folk and jazz festivals. Rising costs and funding cuts challenge the nonprofit — which relies on community support — but its programs continue to nurture local talent.  The Providence Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Brown mathematics professor Joseph Silverman has been elected president-elect of the American Mathematical Society and will begin his one-year term on Feb. 1 before starting his presidency in 2027. He is the second Brown faculty member to hold the role and brings decades of research experience to the position.  Brown University

  • Spring & Mulberry recalled its Mint Leaf Date Sweetened Chocolate Bar due to salmonella concerns after the product was sold in two Whole Foods stores near Providence and Cranston, along with several local shops; customers with the affected lot code #025255 should dispose of it and request a refund.  The Providence Journal

  • Lincoln's boys basketball team defeated Cumberland 42-38 on Jan. 13, marking a close game that kept fans on edge.  The Providence Journal
