COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A major snowstorm is forecast to drop up to a foot of snow this weekend; state agencies advise drivers to clear their cars and maintain extra distance + avoid passing plows to reduce risks on slippery roads ahead of Monday commutes.  The Providence Journal
  • The Providence Journal invites locals to share snow photos and videos as white landscapes are forecast today — submissions include a short form that grants use permissions for images.  The Providence Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Rhode Island will face its season's largest snow storm, so the American Heart Association (AHA) advises adults over 45 and those with heart risks to use ergonomic tools and take breaks while shoveling. Residents should switch to a snowblower or hire help if chest pain, lightheadedness, or palpitations occur.  The Providence Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Providence’s Kim English spoke after her team lost to Ed Cooley’s Georgetown Hoyas on Saturday, Jan. 24.  The Providence Journal
  • Providence's Friars lost to Georgetown 81-78 after the Hoyas rallied from a 21-point deficit — KJ Lewis' clutch 3-pointer and Vincent Iwuchukwu's final block sealed the win. Coach Kim English said his team must regroup ahead of Tuesday's tough matchup.  The Providence Journal
  • Patriots players boarded the team jet at T.F. Green Airport in Warwick Saturday afternoon + they will face the Broncos in the AFC Championship Game today.  The Providence Journal
  • Bryant men's basketball (6–14) rallied from a 30–17 halftime deficit but lost 62–52 to Vermont at the Chace Athletic Center on Saturday, Jan. 24. The Bulldogs cut the gap before Vermont sealed the win with three straight 3-pointers.  The Providence Journal
  • On Jan. 23, RMT hockey co-op secured a 5-2 win over West Warwick/EWG in West Warwick. The team snapped a three-game winless streak with key goals from Colton Kerrison and strong play from new East Providence and Mt. Hope players adding depth+skill to the lineup.  The Providence Journal
