  • Providence resident Steve Zane said a mystery neighbor (Snow Angel) used a snowblower on Ogden Street twice during a heavy 16-inch snowfall last weekend, saving residents from long shoveling. Neighbors expressed gratitude for the kind act during the wintry weather.  Go Local Prov

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Three people, including two Bryant University students & one other, died in a wrong-way car crash on Route 146 in Lincoln early Sunday morning, state police said.  The Boston Globe

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Plant City, a large plant-based food hall in Providence, is closing its flagship location on South Water Street on Feb. 8 due to fewer diners after the Washington Bridge closure reduced traffic flow—its Warwick and Barrington outposts will remain open.  The Boston Globe

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Monday, statewide snowfall totals showed snow (9.4 to 18.4 inches), with Providence recording 16.8 inches; the National Weather Service says light snow may fall further today as freezing temperatures persist.  The Providence Journal
  • URI assistant professor Che-Wei Chang received a US Science Foundation grant to study how plants protect our coastline using 3D printed mangrove models that slow waves and aid sediment deposit, offering hands-on learning for students. URI also plans a large wave tank at its Ocean Frontiers Building, scheduled for 2028.  The Boston Globe

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City crews plowed snow Monday for more than 12 hours as they cleared major routes and attended to side streets to help businesses reopen Tuesday morning — more than 80 workers using 60 trucks applied 4,000 tons of salt and enforced parking bans throughout the storm.  The Providence Journal
