COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Staff at Roger Williams Park Zoo are taking extra steps during this frigid weather by monitoring each animal’s temperature, activity, and appetite and moving sensitive species indoors when needed. They adjust care to match each animal’s natural comfort levels.  10 WJAR

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A home in Warwick suffered extensive damage on Saturday night when its second floor collapsed into the first and part of the first fell into the basement during a fire near Oakland Beach, and firefighters battled the blaze from outside while no one was home.  10 WJAR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Providence will implement alternate side parking on Feb. 2 for trash removal in Wards One, Two, and Three. Residents with permitted overnight parking passes must park on odd-numbered sides starting at 12:01 a.m. and set trash and recycling carts on even-numbered sides (others risk ticketing).  10 WJAR

SPORTS NEWS

  • Brown's men's basketball team fought hard into overtime at the Pizzitola Center on Saturday, Jan. 31 (the day before today) but fell 77-70 after Dartmouth made a late play to clinch the win.  The Providence Journal
  • Providence Friars lost with a score of 87 to 73 against Villanova Friday morning as the team fell in seven of its last eight games. They will host Butler on Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. (Devin Askew scored 20 and Tyler Perkins added 19 for Villanova.)  The Providence Journal
  • The University of Rhode Island women's basketball team struck a record 13 straight wins after beating Fordham 61-47 at Fordham in New York yesterday — marking their third 10-0 start under coach Tammi Reiss. They will play Saint Joseph's at home on Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 6 p.m.  The Providence Journal
