  • The Roger Williams Park Zoo announced free admission for Patriots fans this Sunday; local visitors can take advantage of the offer at the zoo for a fun community outing.  10 WJAR

  • Ashaway Line & Twine Manufacturing Co., established in 1824, produces braided medical sutures, fishing line and racket strings in Hopkinton and continues its long-standing legacy under seventh-generation leadership.  The Providence Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Warner Bros. may show a trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s film Remain during the Super Bowl, though some say the studio might skip buying an ad spot. The movie was filmed around Rhode Island plus stars Jake Gyllenhaal and will open Oct. 23.  The Providence Journal
  • Bess Wohl’s play Small Mouth Sounds is running at the Wilbury Theatre at WaterFire Arts Center, 475 Valley St. The silent production runs through Feb. 15 and features actors using gestures during a five-day retreat; tickets cost $10-$38.  The Boston Globe

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Brown University professor John Donoghue received the Queen Elizabeth Prize for Engineering on Feb. 2 for his pioneering work in developing brain-computer interfaces that help restore movement and communication for people with paralysis.  Brown University
  • Brown has been ranked No. 2 nationally for Fulbright production after offering 41 grants for the 2025 to 2026 program; 37 students and alumni are now teaching and researching in 24 countries, marking its 10th straight year among top Fulbright institutions.  Brown University
  • Former Patriot Christian Fauria led Bryant University’s Advanced Sports Broadcasting class on Feb. 3 at Super Bowl LX’s Radio Row at Moscone Center (San Francisco), where students covered live interviews and learned practical media skills for upcoming assignments.  The Providence Journal

  • Rhode Island boat owners are switching to reusable polyester covers instead of single-use shrink wrap to cut plastic waste and save money. John Myers from Kinder Industries said his cover costs $1,800 (compared to $500 per season) and lasts over 10 years.  Rhode Island PBS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Speaker Shekarchi said he will not run for governor in 2026 after months of speculation, explaining his decision during a recent public briefing in Providence.  The Providence Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Health expert Barbara Ann Fenton-Fung proposes transforming hospital campuses into recovery hubs with integrated care, supportive housing, and workforce training. Local leaders are urged to create a Hospital Transition Task Force to reshape services before emergency departments become overwhelmed.  The Boston Globe
