- ➤ Central Falls began local control of its school system as residents approved a new charter and advisory board in place. Developed with guidance from education policy scholar Ken Wong and community leaders, the hybrid board will assume full powers on July 1 as the transition from state control proceeds. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The House Finance Committee approved an $18M backstop to support the sale of Roger Williams Medical Center and Our Lady of Fatima Hospital, safety-net facilities serving over 500,000 residents. The full House will vote on the measure Feb. 10 before the legislative break. The Providence Journal
- ➤ A South Providence resident said on Friday trucks from Fox Point and downtown dumped thick snow piles in his neighborhood, raising safety concerns as clear driveways became buried with snow — city officials defended the practice as compliant with environmental rules using a city-owned site.
