  • Providence Flea returns to Farm Fresh RI Market Hall every Sunday from Feb. 1 through April 26 except Easter Sunday with over 200 rotating vendors offering local gifts, art, and treats perfect for Valentine’s Day; the market runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with free parking available.  Downtown Providence

  • Local creatives produced a Rhode Island-themed Super Bowl ad that airs this weekend. The 30-second commercial stars Travis Kelce & Taylor Swift exploring beaches, Newport mansions, clam shacks, and more to highlight local quirks and culture.  The Boston Globe

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Central Falls began local control of its school system as residents approved a new charter and advisory board in place. Developed with guidance from education policy scholar Ken Wong and community leaders, the hybrid board will assume full powers on July 1 as the transition from state control proceeds.  Brown University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The House Finance Committee approved an $18M backstop to support the sale of Roger Williams Medical Center and Our Lady of Fatima Hospital, safety-net facilities serving over 500,000 residents. The full House will vote on the measure Feb. 10 before the legislative break.  The Providence Journal
  • A South Providence resident said on Friday trucks from Fox Point and downtown dumped thick snow piles in his neighborhood, raising safety concerns as clear driveways became buried with snow — city officials defended the practice as compliant with environmental rules using a city-owned site.  Go Local Prov

  • D. Palmieri’s Bakery in Johnston brings back its Patriot Pizza, a football-themed pie with red sauce, cheese, pepperoni, olives and black pepper, as the bakery readies for the big game season. The baker said a new design may follow if the Patriots win.  10 WJAR
