- ➤ U.S. Army Lt. Col. Albert Guarnieri Jr. (a Vietnam veteran and North Providence resident) has been chosen as Rhode Island’s honoree for the 2026 Purple Heart Patriot Project; he will join other Purple Heart recipients in a multiday tribute event from Apr. 27 to May 1. The Providence Journal

- ➤ Domina Jalbert, a Woonsocket native, invented the parafoil that now shapes local wingboarding on Narragansett Bay, and his design is featured in the Fusion V2 Ultra-X by Ozone as part of ongoing product research. The Providence Journal

- ➤ Lieutenant Governor Sabina Matos supports a new law aimed at ending food deserts in Rhode Island. Lawmakers say the proposal may improve access to fresh food for many communities (next steps are under discussion). The Providence Journal

- ➤ High school basketball fans can vote today for the Week 8 Longplex Athlete of the Week from nominees including Aidan Clancey (Narragansett), Nate Conca, Michael Hayes, Gabe Johnson, and Connor Reilly.
