BUSINESS NEWS

  • Papa Johns announced it will close about 300 underperforming restaurants nationwide over the next few years, with roughly 200 scheduled to shutter by the end of 2026. The company did not specify a list of affected locations, leaving its three local stores (in North Providence, Pawtucket and Warwick) unconfirmed for closure.  The Providence Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Tom Paolino, a local actor from a storied legal family, will launch his new legal comedy 'One of the Good Ones' on Prime Video this week (inspired by true events in Buffalo). The film marks a new chapter for Paolino, who returned to Rhode Island after studying at Brown.  Go Local Prov
  • Mémère's, a European-inspired restaurant, opens today in downtown Providence with classic French cuisine, signature cocktails and a cozy dining atmosphere — inviting local diners to explore its offerings.  The Providence Journal
  • The Gamm Theatre is showing Ibsen’s Ghosts in a modern adaptation at 1245 Jefferson Blvd., Warwick until March 22. Directed by Tony Estrella, the production stars Jeanine Kane as Helen (tickets cost $70 to $80) and updates the classic melodrama with nuance.  The Boston Globe

  • Brown University researchers launched the CNTR AISLE Portal to track pending AI legislation in all 50 states and at the federal level. The tool aggregates bill profiles and plans to update new data as states begin their 2026 sessions—providing a resource for students, journalists and policymakers.  Brown University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • RI Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi (of Iranian descent) said Tuesday at the State House he felt both hopeful and worried as many Iranian-Americans welcomed the former leader's death amid an ongoing war, while he questioned the clear motive behind the U.S. bombing campaign.  The Providence Journal

  • Wendy's Thin Mints Frosty returns for its second year in New England from Feb. 23, 2026 + the fast-food chain also introduces a new Frosty Fusion that mixes Vanilla Frosty with minty cookie crumble sauce inspired by Girl Scout Thin Mints, including a Frosty Swirl option available while supplies last.  The Providence Journal

  • A state report shows Rhode Island issued only 82 accessory dwelling unit permits last year, with Providence permits falling from 10 in 2024 to 5. Despite rising ADU applications statewide, high soft costs + regulatory fees continue to slow efforts to expand affordable housing.  Go Local Prov
