- ➤ Memere's, a French bistro by the family behind Providence The Dorrance, opened in the Neptune hotel on Fountain Street on March 4. It serves classic French dishes + creative cocktails in a cozy setting. The Providence Journal
- ➤ Rhode Island Life Science Hub CEO Mark Turco is stepping down on March 11 and will return to the private sector to lead an unnamed medical device company. The Hub will name an interim president soon as it faces a funding challenge and grows the state’s life sciences sector. The Boston Globe
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ Gas prices in the state jumped 17 cents over the last two days after international conflict disrupted crude shipments. The rise follows attacks on oil and gas facilities that increased fuel costs locally. Go Local Prov
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Community Preparatory School is an independent middle school on the south side that empowers diverse 4th to 8th graders with a rigorous academic program and leadership training (since 1984). It continues to expand its donor network and volunteer opportunities to support inclusive education. The Providence Journal
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Following a Feb. 22 blizzard, environmental regulators allowed excess snow to be dumped in waterways to protect public safety. Naval Station Newport dumped 5,000 tons of untreated snow into Narragansett Bay on Feb. 23 + Electric Boat in Quonset also submitted plans as the state waived permit requirements. Rhode Island PBS

- ➤ The Providence diocese said Wednesday it has adopted reforms after a report detailed long-past clergy abuse (Bishop Bruce Lewandowski apologized in a video and assured that no credibly accused clergy now serve in active ministry). The Boston Globe
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ The former Memorial Hospital site in Pawtucket is planned for a 250+ unit complex with ground-floor retail, affordable housing and market-rate apartments (20% for veterans, 40% affordable, 40% market rate) as financing is secured. Work is expected to start later this season. 10 WJAR
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Providence lost 56-78 to Marquette on March 4 at Amica Mutual Pavilion after turning the ball over 19 times, which gave Marquette 29 extra points. Coach Kim English said the loss was tough to watch. The Providence Journal
