  • A 93-year-old Korean War veteran uses his new Kubota tractor to plow driveways for free in Johnston this winter. The longtime local helper has supported neighbors for decades+ he now plans to switch to cutting grass when the snow melts.  10 WJAR

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Providence Culinary Collective and Rhode Island Wine Experience host four days of culinary events from March 26 to 29, featuring free global flavors, a Portugal wine dinner at Track 15 and a martini tasting at The Beatrice + more. Ticket sales are strong as some events have sold out.  The Providence Journal
  • Roger Williams founded Providence in 1636 and his legacy of religious freedom still shapes our community today. Visitors to the National Memorial can explore exhibits that highlight his influential role — a founding principle that endures in our city.  10 WJAR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Senate voted Tuesday to hold two bills offering a 30-year tax incentive for data centers that must invest in Rhode Island jobs and renewable energy + critics argued that companies would build centers regardless and warned of rising electricity costs.  The Boston Globe
  • State lawmakers announced a plan to give URI $5 million to launch a new medical school that will hire a founding dean and begin curriculum planning (progress will be reported by Jan. 1) as part of efforts to ease the local doctor shortage.  The Boston Globe
  • Residents voiced concern when a Providence license hearing for Rhode Island Recycled Metals took place Thursday night amid repeated fires and environmental issues. The Board will vote on March 26 after hearing from the facility.  10 WJAR

SPORTS NEWS

  • After an 85 to 72 loss to St. John's in the second round of the Big East Tournament, Kim English ended his three-year tenure as coach at Providence College as players now enter free agency. The result leaves the men's basketball program facing an uncertain rebuilding period.  Go Local Prov
  • At the RIIL basketball quarterfinals on March 12, Hendricken beat La Salle (70-62) to earn a final four spot and will face No. 6 Central at the Ryan Center, while Portsmouth won 45-41 over North Kingstown with Violet Silvia’s late 3-pointer and will play top-seeded Westerly on Saturday at noon.  The Providence Journal
  • URI women's basketball coach Tammi Reiss became a finalist for the 2026 Kathy Delaney-Smith Mid-Major Coach of the Year Award after leading her team to a 28-4 season and an A-10 Tournament title + she noted on social media that she feels blessed with an incredible staff and players.  Go Local Prov
  • Colin Dorgan scored a double-overtime game-winning goal on Wednesday for Blackstone Valley Schools, sending his team to the divisional championships next week; his teammates celebrated by wearing patches honoring his lost family (mother, grandfather, and brother).  10 WJAR
