  • One week after a fire damaged Bradley Cafe, locals raised funds as food trucks served lunch on Friday + co-owners opened the building for viewing; a Providence College toast is planned today from 4 to 6:30 p.m. to honor the bar’s legacy.  10 WJAR

  • Today marks the one-year anniversary of Track 15 food hall in the repurposed Union Station, where seven fast-casual restaurants serve cuisines from seafood to Turkish. The venue hosted nearly 750,000 guests, 139 public events, and 105 private events during its first year.  The Providence Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • North Providence native Michael P. Shawver is nominated for an Academy Award for editing 'Sinners' — a film with 16 nominations scheduled for recognition on Sunday. The URI graduate who edited Black Panther hopes to direct a movie filmed in Rhode Island.  The Providence Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Researchers at Brown University developed a method that helps quadruped robots use language + gesture to pinpoint objects with nearly 90% success. The study will be presented Tuesday, Mar. 17 in Edinburgh.  Brown University
  • Reach Out and Read Rhode Island offers a program to help families find engaging books for young children, addressing a concern that some parents report reading to kids is not fun+ The nonprofit aims to boost literacy by helping families choose books that keep children excited about reading.  The Providence Journal

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Revolution Wind, a large offshore wind project off Connecticut and Rhode Island, came online Friday and added 704 MW of clean energy to New England’s power grid — boosting reliability and lowering costs, officials said.  Rhode Island PBS

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Providence officials postponed their decision on RI Recycled Metals' junk license application after company representatives failed to appear on March 12 (residents and Mayor Smiley continue to oppose the facility due to past fires and environmental concerns). The Board of Licenses will reconvene in two weeks to review the case.  The Providence Journal
  • Rhode Island state workers saw their tax refunds delayed until Friday due to errors on W-2 forms, and the Department of Revenue processed returns once it received corrected forms from payroll.  10 WJAR

SPORTS NEWS

  • Lauren Bousquet from Moses Brown was named the 2026 Gatorade RI Girls Basketball Player of the Year on March 13 (she overcame injuries and averaged over 27 points per game to lead her team to key wins).  The Providence Journal
  • Providence College fired men’s basketball coach Kim English on Friday after the team was eliminated from the Big East Tournament, and the school said it would begin a national search for a new coach (it is also believed to owe him a buyout over $6 million).  The Providence Journal
  • South County Storm girls hockey beat Northern RI Yeti 2+0 on March 12 to secure their first championship appearance after six semifinal losses plus TRPW Storm won 2+1 in double overtime at Providence College; both teams will face off in Wednesday's championship at the Amica Mutual Pavilion.  The Providence Journal
  • URI women's basketball team secured a spot in March Madness by winning the Atlantic 10 Tournament on Mar. 8; Brown remains in contention (its Ivy Madness opener could lead to an NCAA berth) while no Rhode Island men's teams were selected.  The Providence Journal
  • Providence College will face the Merrimack Warriors at 7 p.m. today at Schneider Arena in the Hockey East quarterfinal round. The Warriors advanced after beating UMass Lowell and split a November series with PC, setting the stage for a crucial game.  Go Local Prov
