CULTURE NEWS

  • The Providence Culinary Collective will launch March 26-29 at multiple venues in Providence, building on last year's sold-out festival with new chefs and varied culinary experiences (including global flavor tastings, museum tours, and cooking classes).  Go Local Prov
  • On Sunday, Mar. 15, Flickers Rhode Island International Film Festival recognized Oscar nominees with local ties as the Oscars concluded, spotlighting films that brought our talent to a global stage.  10 WJAR
  • Ahead of St. Patrick's Day, Patrick's Pub in Providence hosted a traditional Irish music session (where local musicians played Irish tunes) that offered a festive preview of the upcoming holiday.  The Providence Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Florence Kerins Murray, Rhode Island’s first female judge, advanced equal rights with her work in the Senate and later as Superior and Supreme Court judge. She authored hundreds of decisions and led the creation of a separate Family Court — a legacy honored in Newport.  The Providence Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Barrington defeated Central for the boys basketball state championship on March 15 at URI's Ryan Center (the Eagles secured their first state title opportunity).  The Providence Journal
  • On Saturday, Mar. 14, eighth seeded Merrimack upset Providence 3 to 2 in overtime at Schneider Arena + the Friars missed key scorer Logan Sawyer. They now await the NCAA Selection Show scheduled for March 22.  The Providence Journal
  • The Barrington Eagles won their first girls basketball state championship yesterday after rallying from a double-digit deficit to outlast Westerly 65-62 at the Ryan Center in South Kingstown with key three-point shots from Ella Martin and Keira Martin.  The Providence Journal
  • URI women's basketball was chosen as a No. 11 seed on March 15 and will face No. 6 Alabama in Louisville on Saturday, March 21 in a key March Madness matchup.  The Providence Journal
  • After winning semifinal games on Sunday (Hendricken beat Pilgrim 4-2 and La Salle won 1-0 over Moses Brown), local boys hockey teams will face off in the RIIL 2026 State Championship title match on Wednesday, March 18 at AMP (downtown).  The Providence Journal
  • On Sunday at the Ryan Center, the West Warwick Wizards clinched the co-ed state and overall championship at the RIIL Competition Cheer State Championships with a 92.5 score—marking their fifth straight title.  The Providence Journal
