CULTURE NEWS

  • Residents spotted mysterious polaroid-like pictures on utility poles and in Brown University's halls that show faces scratched out (many believe they reflect our city's art vibe). Former artist Robin Goldberg said they have been appearing for months, but the artist remains unknown.  10 WJAR
  • Pottery@Brown is a student-run club offering free studio sessions and workshops for Brown and RISD students. It started in Fall 2022 and now has over 1,850 sign-ups, funded by the Brown Arts Institute + Undergraduate Finance Board to provide a quiet creative outlet on campus.  Brown University
  • Burbage Theatre Co. in Pawtucket is hosting the Rhode Island premiere of Lynn Nottage's play Clyde's until April 12 + the production, directed by Jeff Church, follows former inmates working at a sandwich shop as they rebuild their lives.  The Boston Globe

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Providence is replacing trash and recycling cans for 62,000 households with new 95-gallon carts starting this week and scheduled to finish by June. The $7.4 million project uses grant funds and low-interest financing to improve recycling rates and reduce contamination costs.  The Providence Journal
  • Neighbors in Cranston experienced flooded basements after Monday's rain as water seeped in from a sinkhole on Thunder Trail that was not properly fixed; Cranston officials said the Department of Public Works is investigating the repair work that began on Tuesday, March 10.  10 WJAR

HEALTH NEWS

  • Rhode Island health officials issued a public alert after 55 suspected, non-fatal overdoses were recorded statewide from March 10 to March 16 (above the average of 41). They urge residents to avoid using drugs alone and to keep naloxone nearby to help reverse potential overdoses.  Rhode Island PBS

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A historic Colonial Revival home in the Freeman Plat Historic District sold today for $3.095 million on the East Side, +built in 1923 and renovated to high standards+ setting a 2026 sales record that reflects strong local demand.  The Providence Journal

  • Kevin McNamara previewed the NCAA Tournament with men's games starting today and the URI women's team dancing for the first time in 30 years as they face Alabama on Saturday; he noted that new spending rules may reshape local team play (with possible first-round upsets).  The Boston Globe
