  • Sonia Morales launched Angela’s Legacy of Hope — a nonprofit that supports families facing prenatal diagnoses in honor of her daughter’s 12th birthday. A ribbon cutting is set for May 2 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Scalabrini Dukcevich Center.  10 WJAR
  • After a challenging time, Brown community members showed gratitude by organizing events like a benefit concert, classroom readings, and volunteer drives to support local spending and donations, which strengthened ties with Providence businesses + nonprofits.  Brown University

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A JetBlue flight struck an animal on departure from T.F. Green International Airport and returned to Warwick at 6:40 a.m. out of caution (no injuries or damage were reported) before resuming its trip to JFK.  The Boston Globe

  • The food hall Track 15 in downtown Providence will see changes this spring as Giusto closes at the end of April and Mother Pizzeria shuts Sunday while Yagi Noodles replaces Giusto and Grumpy Pies hosts its soft opening on April 1—introducing new flavors to the venue.  The Boston Globe
  • Wonder is opening a new dine-in location at 1000 Chapel View Boulevard in Cranston on March 26. The tech-forward food hall & delivery service lets diners mix dishes from multiple local restaurants as it expands its Rhode Island footprint.  The Providence Journal
  • Casinos in New England use regular shuttle buses and culturally tailored marketing to reach Asian communities near Providence, including stops at Bally’s Twin River Casino Resort. Advocates say the tactics may encourage problem gambling among vulnerable patrons.  The Boston Globe

  • The Providence Journal poll has narrowed the best pizza contest to Bar'Lino Ristorante, Pasquale's Pizzeria Napoletana, Cumberland House of Pizza, and Pizza Mamma. Voting continues until Monday, March 30 (11:59 p.m.) as local fans help decide who moves on.  The Providence Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City Councilor Miguel Sanchez is reviewing steps to remove the Cesar Chavez statue from Davis Park and rename the street in honor of Dolores Huerta. The proposals come after abuse allegations sparked controversy over the way Chavez is honored (detailed in a recent report).  The Boston Globe

SPORTS NEWS

  • Bryan Hodgson was introduced as Providence College's new men's basketball coach on Tuesday, March 24 at Alumni Hall.  The Providence Journal
  • URI coach Tammi Reiss departs after 28 wins, including a March Madness bid, and will join Florida. After seven years rebuilding URI with a focus on teamwork and culture (earning three A-10 Coach of the Year honors), her move opens a new chapter for the program.  Rhode Island PBS
  • Blackstone Valley Schools hockey visited the Boston Bruins practice facility on March 23 after a season of thrilling wins that included a four-overtime championship victory. The team toured Warrior Ice Arena and met Bruins players, highlighting strong local support.  The Providence Journal
