CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Providence Performing Arts Center announced its 2025-26 Broadway season will open with 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' running from Sept. 19 to Oct. 4 — the production by Sonia Friedman is expected to draw new audiences after touring Chicago, Los Angeles, and Washington D.C. In addition to five other Broadway shows, the season will include four encore productions with about 120 shows overall that could boost subscriptions by up to 4,000. The Boston Globe
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Brown University hosted about 250 Providence high schoolers for STEM Day on Tuesday—held from 9:30 a.m. to noon with hands-on chemistry workshops and experiments led by the Department of Chemistry—at the campus. 10 WJAR
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The DOJ has begun investigating the Providence Public School District and RIDE after a March 21 notice alleged that their student loan repayment program may treat teachers who identify as white unfairly. The inquiry follows a 2021 initiative that provided loan forgiveness to teachers of color to recruit a more diverse workforce. ABC 6
- ➤ Rhode Island’s public defender’s office said that pay raises delayed by a state cloud payroll update will soon be issued and that hiring two extra attorneys would reduce each lawyer’s caseload by 100 – a move intended to ease heavy workloads. However, Gov. McKee’s proposed budget did not include these new positions because of a $223 million deficit. Rhode Island PBS
