- ➤ Cranston Police say video evidence from March 19th shows Linda DaLomba walking down Pond Street and entering a parked vehicle where she was left for four days after her caretaker went to a nail salon—she was found on Sunday afternoon with her health improving in hospital. Go Local Prov
- ➤ A Pawtucket man, Walik Morrison, was sentenced to 40 years for delivering powdered fentanyl that killed Tokie Zammarelli, a mother of two, in 2022—he delivered fentanyl instead of the cocaine she requested. The Providence Journal
- ➤ A Pawtucket man, Walik Morrison, 44, delivered a mix of cocaine and fentanyl that led to the fatal overdose of a 35-year-old mother in 2022 and was sentenced to 40 years in state prison by a Providence Superior Court judge, making him the first person convicted under Kristen’s Law. - ➤ The Asian American Pacific Islander History Museum opened Wednesday, March 26th on Hospital Street in Providence—marked as the nation’s first museum of its kind—and features interactive exhibits on AAPI history. Founder Jeannie Salomon said the museum began as a mobile exhibit in September 2024, evolved through Mellon Foundation grants received in January, and responds to rising anti-Asian hate crimes by providing a space for community dialogue. 10 WJAR
- ➤ The Lil Rhody Laugh Riot comedy festival starts today with acts like Kevin Hart, Leslie Jones, and Matt Rife—PVD Food Truck Events will provide new treats for attendees, and founder Eric Weiner expects a lively weekend. The event brings local fun and diverse food options to Providence. 10 WJAR
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A local non-profit is offering free classes that teach parents to help with homework and understand school policy. Their Parent Literacy and Parent Education programs have graduated about two dozen parents so far (with plans to add more courses soon). 10 WJAR
- ➤ Judge Frank Caprio, known for his courtroom show, will deliver the commencement speech at Providence College’s 107th ceremony on May 18 at the Amica Mutual Pavilion. He graduated from the college in 1958 and received an honorary doctorate in 2008. 10 WJAR
- ➤ On March 25, nearly 250 high school students gathered on College Hill for STEM Day at Brown’s Department of Chemistry to explore science careers through hands-on experiments and panel discussions — including sessions where they built robots and made ice cream with liquid nitrogen. The event also featured talks on mentorship and pre-college programs aimed at expanding students’ opportunities in STEM. Brown University

- ➤ After GoLocal asked questions this week about a Newport committee that directed donations to Mayor Holder’s office to fund an April event at the hotel he runs, City officials said they have asked the organizers to seek alternative fundraising methods — and they will refund all contributions received — to ensure that future donations are redirected properly. - ➤ Providence officials say the Attorney General’s Office is working with the Health Department to assess next steps after the CDC cut $31 million in grant funding. The Health Department has also contacted Governor McKee’s office to explore options to secure funds for work on vaccines, lab tests, and community health programs—efforts aimed at addressing evolving public health needs.
