- ➤ Rhode Home Rescue brings abused and unwanted dogs from Arkansas to Providence where volunteers help them find safe homes using a truck that arrives every other Friday. The group has placed over 2,300 dogs since 2016 — its network of foster families and adoption events gives each pup a fresh start. The Providence Journal
- ➤ A dog rescued in Arkansas received medical treatment—losing a hind leg—and was adopted in Rhode Island. The Providence Journal
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Today, the Rhode Island Lottery has updated Mega Millions—ticket prices rose from $2 to $5, the starting jackpot increased to $50 million from $20 million, and the game now uses 24 Mega Balls instead of 25. No one won last night’s drawing for a $43 million jackpot and the next drawing is set for Tuesday night with an estimated jackpot of $54 million. 10 WJAR
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Providence police charged Michael Beauregard, 52, with assault with a deadly weapon and Don Campbell with simple assault after a fight on Camp Street at 7:55 p.m. Friday that began over a noise dispute and escalated when Campbell struck Beauregard with a weed whacker and Beauregard retaliated by hitting Campbell with a wrench — both men were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. 10 WJAR
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Alec Baldwin will appear on Saturday, Nov. 8 at Rhode Island Comic Con 2025 with autograph photos costing between $120 and $140 and a professional photo opportunity available for $125. Other celebrities including Susan Sarandon, Geena Davis, Charlie Cox, Deborah Ann Woll and Vincent D'Onofrio are set to join the event from Nov. 7 to Nov. 9. The Providence Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A Rhode Island judge reversed an award of $160,000 to Alan D. Sampson, who spent over three years in jail after a 2003 arrest that led to a wrongful conviction being overturned in 2010. The judge vacated the award on Tuesday after state officials planned to challenge his petition due to miscommunication with his attorney, and the government has 10 days to file a response. - ➤ Dr. Philip Chan explained that Rhode Island’s efforts cut fatal overdoses slightly from a 2022 peak of 436—he warned that federal funding cuts could hurt these programs and advised residents to carry Narcan to reverse overdoses. Go Local Prov

- ➤ Billy Donovan, a former standout guard at Providence College and coach who led Florida to back-to-back NCAA championships in 2006 and 2007, was elected to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame during the Final Four in San Antonio—an honor that cements his impact on the game.
