  • A local columnist reported that Pawtucket lost two landmarks—the demolished McCoy Stadium and the old Apex store—and warned that a new soccer stadium will require over $140 million in state borrowing. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Providence police cruiser was involved in a car accident on April 6th around 4:30 a.m. at the intersection of Broadway and Courtland Street while responding to a disturbance call involving a firearm—one officer was taken to Rhode Island Hospital and vehicle occupants were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries as the investigation continues.  10 WJAR

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Sunday, April 6, Providence College Chaplain Simon Teller posted a video on Instagram urging Catholics to skip pork dumplings on Fridays during Lent, which received over 27,000 likes. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents on Johnston road faced flooding on Sunday, April 6 when heavy water filled Belfield Drive and cars drove through deep puddles. Johnston officials have not yet explained steps to fix the problem despite a $1.3 million project announced in 2021—along with federal funding for home buyouts.  10 WJAR

HEALTH NEWS

  • More than 1000 participants took part in the 22nd annual Tomorrow Fund Stroll at Garden City Center on April 6, raising close to the $90,000 goal to support children with cancer and their families at Hasbro Children’s Hospital.  ABC 6

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Calart Tower on Reservoir Avenue was built in the 1930s as the headquarters for the California Artificial Flower Company started by immigrant Michele D’Agnillo—its indoor waterfall and gardens made it a local destination for weddings and holiday displays. The building is now for sale at $5.3 million and has 40 office suites, most of which are occupied.  The Providence Journal
