- ➤ At a ceremony held Wednesday at Memorial Park during National Crime Victims’ Rights week, Michelle Brophy-Baermann was honored for her dignified tribute to her daughter Miya, who was killed in a drive-by shooting in August 2021. She and her husband launched the Miya’s Voice scholarship to support diversity in speech language pathology and audiology. ABC 6

- ➤ Fray Luis Rosario, a Federal Hill business owner who ran Terra Luna Cafe—Terra Negra Cantina, died when a nightclub roof collapsed in Santo Domingo on April 9th; over 120 people lost their lives in the incident. ABC 6
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ State police asked the public for dash camera, trail camera, or drone videos—recorded along Plainfield Pike in February or March—to help with the investigation of Warwick resident Michele Romano’s suspicious death after her remains were found in a wooded area on March 26. The Providence Journal
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A report on an 18th-century shipwreck in Newport Harbor that may be the HMS Endeavour was added to the Rhode Island State Archives on Tuesday. The report said evidence is still inconclusive — further digs are not recommended — and it will guide researchers looking into our Revolutionary War history. The Providence Journal
- ➤ Providence’s Cranston Street Armory is set to be discussed at the April 15 State Properties Committee meeting as RI’s Film & TV Office and Two Beacons Productions LLC—managed by director M. Night Shyamalan’s production company—seek a film license to start filming a new movie on May 1. The Providence Journal

- ➤ The West Warwick Superintendent said a student who allegedly posted threatening social media posts will no longer attend school or join school activities. School officials and police noted the threats were not seen as credible and that a police presence earlier in the week contributed to student absences. 10 WJAR

- ➤ Gun violence survivors and advocates gathered Tuesday at the State House to urge legislators to ban assault-style weapons by sharing personal stories of loss. The proposed ban, backed by majorities in the House and Senate, faced opposition from gun owners and some lawmakers over concerns about constitutional rights and economic impact.
