ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Federal Hill is mourning the loss of restaurateur Fray Rosario, who was killed in a nightclub collapse in the Dominican Republic on Tuesday—he had recently purchased the building for Terra Luna Café and Terra Negra Cantina and was a well-known community figure. ABC 6
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ The popular NicoBella's on Dorrance Street in downtown Providence is serving its last meals before closing on May 1st. The owner announced a farewell celebration on April 27th (1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.) to mark the restaurant’s final days. 10 WJAR
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ In 2024, Rhode Island police issued 292 citations for speeding at 100 mph or more—233 from state police—and a driver hitting 132 mph on January 3 received a six-month license suspension; sample cases show penalties include fines and further license suspensions. The Providence Journal
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Tiverton Town Council approved Patrick Jones as town administrator after he served as acting police chief; his contract runs three years with a starting salary of $165,000 that will rise after his probation—while Mike Burk returned to the council following Blake Hayden's resignation. - ➤ The Rhode Island House and Senate approved bills to rename the Sakonnet River Bridge after fallen Staff Sergeant Christopher Potts as part of a 15-year effort led by former state Rep. John Edwards—this step honors the Tiverton soldier who received the Bronze Star Medal with Combat—V and the Purple Heart after his service in Iraq. - ➤ Rhode Island lawmakers stopped a $100 million archives building planned for 2024—citing a $250 million budget shortfall.
