- ➤ Police found a body of a 50-year-old man floating face down in the Woonasquatucket River near Delaine Street in Olneyville on Wednesday - they said the death was not suspicious and the fire department retrieved the body for the Medical Examiner. Go Local Prov
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Brown University joined a federal lawsuit to challenge DOE cuts announced on April 11th—reducing indirect cost rates that support its research funding. The suit warns the change could cost the university over $2 million this year and disrupt work in semiconductor materials, computing and national security. Brown University
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Wednesday, Mayor Brett Smiley announced a FY26 budget that mistakenly assumed CharterCARE would pay $5.9M a year and proposed a 16% tax rise on renters. The $624M budget—with only $9M in cuts—followed more than a decade of financial missteps and has raised concerns over the city's fiscal plans. Go Local Prov
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha announced a $213,000 settlement with a national real estate firm accused of charging illegal application fees, which refunded $98,250 to affected tenants while the firm paid $114,750 to the state. The settlement required ARBC Inc to stop charging fees — ask about disabilities — and share screening rights with applicants. ABC 6

- ➤ La Salle defeated Cranston West 10–6 in a Division I state championship softball rematch at McLaughlin Field as Hailey Vigneau hit a crucial bases-loaded triple—while Phoenyx Silvia added two home runs to drive the victory.
