CRIME NEWS
- ➤ John P. Pigsley, the former Assistant Chief Engineer for Keolis Commuter Services, was sentenced in Boston after pleading guilty to defrauding Keolis of over $8.5 million and the IRS of over $2.6 million—he received 70 months in prison with supervised release and restitution orders. - ➤ Melissa Ucci recalled the 20th anniversary of a fatal DUI crash in Narragansett that took the lives of her 95-year-old grandmother and 86-year-old great aunt, adding that her family once forgave the 18-year-old driver but was deeply hurt when she was later arrested for a similar offense. 10 WJAR

- ➤ Brown University Ph.D. candidate Eva Erickson—who captained the men’s club hockey team and became the first openly autistic Survivor contestant—combines her fluid and thermal science research with athletic leadership to design safer sports equipment. Brown University
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A federal class action lawsuit filed Friday sought to represent over 100 international students from New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island and Puerto Rico who lost their F-1 status without explanation, putting their studies at risk. The suit, filed by the Rhode Island ACLU and law firm Shaheen & Gordon (including students from Brown and RISD), asked the court to reinstate the statuses and named defendants (the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Secretary Kristi Noem and Acting Director Todd Lyons). - ➤ Cathedral Square outside the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul has decayed and become nearly impassable due to the City’s lack of maintenance. The City is planning to stabilize the stairs as a short-term safety measure — an engineering firm will be chosen this spring to design long-term repairs for a safe, accessible public space. - ➤ Donald Levine, a physical therapist, surrendered his license on April 19th after failing to properly drape patients and document treatments from 2020 through 2022—actions deemed unprofessional by RIDOH. Go Local Prov

- ➤ URI Football held its spring practice on April 19 at Meade Stadium; head coach Jim Fleming spoke after the event (providing team insights) (as part of his post-practice briefing). The Providence Journal
- ➤ Saturday saw local teams play in baseball, softball and lacrosse games as Westerly rallied for a 6-5 walk-off win over North Kingstown—La Salle edged Fitch 9-6 and Coventry dominated Bay View 17-0 while players shined in clutch moments and strong pitching performances. The Providence Journal
