CRIME NEWS

  • Pawtucket Police said a body was pulled from the Seekonk River over the weekend after a call arrived just after 5:30 p.m. on Sunday — detectives are investigating with no further details available.  ABC 6

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Researchers at the University of Rhode Island are asking residents to complete a two-question QR code survey on their smartphones to report roadkill sightings. They hope the data will pinpoint hotspots—areas where animals are struck most frequently—so planners can design safer crossings—protecting both people and wildlife.  The Boston Globe

  • Rhode Island political leaders expressed sadness after Senate President Dominick J. Ruggerio’s office said he died Monday morning—he had been in the hospital days earlier. Congressman Seth Magaziner and House Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi paid tribute to his long service at the State House.  ABC 6
  • Rhode Island Senate President Dominick Ruggerio died early Monday morning at age 76 after returning to the hospital on Friday for health issues — a state Senate release confirmed his passing and expressed deep sorrow from his colleagues.  10 WJAR
