- ➤ A new gathering space is coming to downtown Providence. Nearly a year and a half after breaking ground, state and local leaders held a ribbon-cutting for the 195 District Park Pavilion along the Providence River (near Ship and Elbow streets), and it will soon host events and local businesses. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Newport Folk Festival adds four acts including Vulfpeck, Tiny Habits, Courtney Marie Andrews and Dawes Duo. The sold-out event runs at Fort Adams State Park from July 24-26 and fans can join the waitlist via the festival app to secure returned tickets. The Providence Journal
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Roger Williams University president Ioannis N. Miaoulis, who led the school for seven years, will retire on May 31 after overseeing commencement ceremonies—chief of staff Dr. Brian Williams will serve as interim president starting June 1 to guide the university into its next chapter. - ➤ St. Andrew’s School announced on Wednesday that Stephanie Morin will serve as Interim Head while David Tinagero remains on leave and tapped former Hasbro CEO Alfred Verrecchia as advisor to support school operations. - ➤ Providence Preservation Society calls on Brown University to pause plans to tear down four historic houses (built in the 1870s-1880s) on Brook Street due to environmental and heritage concerns.
