  • Barrington (coastal town of 17,126 residents along Narragansett Bay) ranked as RI's best place to live on Niche’s 2026 Best Places to Live list and earned a No. 1,147 national ranking.  The Providence Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • The documentary 'Age of Audio' that explores podcasting trends and features local Radiotopia director Audrey Mardavich along with Ira Glass and Marc Maron premiered Thursday, April 23 at AS220's black box theater in Providence, where director Shaun Michael Colón hosted a live Q&A & a panel discussion on independent podcasting.  Rhode Island PBS
  • The Brown Ever True initiative is collecting art that shows the community healing after Dec. 13, with submissions being shared on Instagram and set for archiving by the Brown Library (a focus on preserving community strength through creativity).  Brown University

ECONOMY NEWS

  • TF Green airport will add direct, year-round flights to Cabo Verde in May, offering a Monday afternoon arrival with an immediate return flight + considering a second weekly service later in 2026 to connect family and culture.  The Boston Globe

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Four Brown University faculty members (Michael Littman, Saul Olyan, Leela Prasad and Joseph Silverman) were elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences among over 250 new members; their induction is scheduled in Cambridge, Massachusetts in October.  Brown University
  • Brown celebrated its 258th Commencement on College Hill as graduate speakers Kenia Collins and Melanie Ortiz Alvarez de la Campa addressed peers with messages on resilience and reimagination. Collins recounted her journey in healthcare leadership while Ortiz highlighted her research in science communication.  Brown University

HEALTH NEWS

  • R.I. sealed a $9.8m deal with Family Service for an Exeter girls treatment center that will have 16 beds and offer trauma-informed residential care. Construction is set to finish this spring and the center will open in the fall—staff recruitment has already begun.  The Boston Globe

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Track 15 welcomes spring with outdoor dining and festive activities downtown, including the 152nd Kentucky Derby celebration on Saturday, May 2 at 3 PM featuring a Finishing Touches Bar and rose wall for photos, with Woodford Reserve sponsoring Mint Juleps. REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Rhode Island single-family home sales slowed in March as rising interest rates and global tensions kept buyers on the sidelines, with the median price hitting $514,250. Condo and multi-family sales also dropped, though multi-family listings increased and the median price reached a record $637,500 (per the Realtors).  The Boston Globe

  • Max Correiro hit a grand slam in extra innings to give East Providence a 10–6 win over Lincoln on Thursday, Apr. 23 at Chet Nichols Field. Kyle Desrosiers closed the game on the mound as the Townies improved to an 8-1 record.  The Providence Journal
