🚧 Accidents
More than 45 city firefighters responded to a house fire on Lubec Street in Providence on Monday, April 28th— the blaze started just before 1 p.m. and included an explosion while firefighters battled the flames, leaving all residents unharmed while one firefighter was treated for shoulder and back pain.
🚨 Crime
ICE defended its agents after tasing a Dominican man during an arrest in Providence on Thursday — the agency said he resisted by reaching for an officer’s belt and had a previous arrest record — while some protesters outside a local hospital criticized the incident.
🎓 Education
Paige Moreau, a Roger Williams University student from Rhode Island, died on April 26 in Florence, Italy after a medical emergency during her study abroad program.
She served as a resident assistant and orientation manager, worked as an intern in Providence + her loss has left her community mourning.
🌲 Environment
Brown oceanographer Baylor Fox-Kemper explained that climate change is stressing Rhode Island's drinking water systems as rising sea levels and more extreme weather are affecting coastal islands like Aquidneck and Conanicut.
His research showed that these communities must improve water systems—changes needed to protect supplies against saltwater intrusion and future storms.
