COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, Crossroads RI detailed its efforts to meet rising homelessness by providing shelter and services to nearly 4,800 people in 2025 and opening 375 supportive apartments statewide — including the newly completed Summer Street Apartments. The nonprofit will unveil three outdoor spaces at its Providence headquarters later this year.  The Providence Journal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Bevi Bar, an Italian-inspired cocktail bar, is set to open this summer in the former Tiny Bar at 377 Richmond St in downtown Providence. Owner Alessandra Pallozzi will upgrade the space with Italian design touches that keep the glass patio intact for an authentic piazza feel.  The Boston Globe

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Brown's Bruno Cares program trains over 70 student-athletes to spot distress signs and offer peer support for mental health. The peer-to-peer initiative began in 2023 and now builds a reliable network across teams (including leadership skills).  Brown University

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Apr. 28, a tiny, blind peregrine falcon chick hatched atop the Superman Building while the Audubon Society livestreamed its first feeding. The society highlighted rodenticide risks + urged support for a pending bill with a hearing slated for 4 p.m. Wednesday.  The Providence Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Lawmakers are considering four key health care bills at the State House. One bill requires police to carry epinephrine auto-injectors with training, two offer loan repayment programs to boost primary care, + one caps prescription inhaler prices to $25 while a Compassionate Care Act is set for a hearing today.  The Providence Journal

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A judge will decide on a new owner for Providence Place on Wednesday, May 6, as receivers adjust security + parking after the mall fell into receivership in November 2024.  10 WJAR
  • A group led by Joseph Paolino was recommended by receiver Mark Russo to buy Providence Place Mall with a $133 million bid pending Superior Court Judge Brian Stern’s approval. The acquisition follows store closures after the mall entered receivership last Halloween (2024) and aims to revive the center.  Go Local Prov

  • Brown senior Olivia Pichardo pitched in a key inning during the Bears’ game on senior day at Providence’s East Side as they built a lead over Cornell. The historic appearance (her first major college pitch) marks her gradual rise as she pursues a spot with Team USA’s national team.  The Boston Globe
