CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A 28-year-old man died and a 25-year-old woman was injured after gunfire on May 5 in Pawtucket — officers found the victims at 54 Arch St around 2:30 p.m. and detectives are investigating the incident. The Providence Journal
- ➤ Providence police arrested Niyeem Lee and Kendall Towns Monday at 3:46 p.m. near 1049 Atwells Ave after an armed carjacking—where the victim, who met a suspect online to buy marijuana, was held at gunpoint and struck—and the suspects now face charges of first-degree robbery, felony assault with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy. 10 WJAR
- ➤ Eric Peterson, 37 of 54 Arch Street—charged with first degree murder and other firearm-related crimes—is held without bail after Pawtucket Police arrested him for a Monday shooting that killed a 28-year-old man and injured a 25-year-old woman, and he appeared in court on May 6 as a probation violation. 10 WJAR

- ➤ Brown University joined a federal lawsuit on May 5 to challenge NSF funding cuts that would cap indirect cost reimbursements at 15%—a move that threatens research in quantum computing, machine learning, advanced engineering materials and biomechanics. The university warned the cuts could force multi-year projects to slow or stop and reduce its annual indirect cost recovery by approximately $11.25 million—raising concerns about its future research capacity.
