ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A bicyclist was hit by a vehicle before 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Benefit Street and Central Avenue in Pawtucket — the rider was rushed to the hospital and is expected to be okay as the driver remained on the scene with no criminal charges anticipated. 10 WJAR
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Three URI professors—Brice Loose, Amelia Moore and Koray Ozpolat—stated that academic freedom is key for the university to drive research in health care, engineering and environmental conservation. They urged Rhode Islanders, business leaders and elected officials to support these freedoms to keep URI's statewide impact strong. The Boston Globe

- ➤ The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management reported that a dead whale was found near Bold Point Park in East Providence on May 11 at 8:00 a.m.—Mystic Aquarium will perform a necropsy to determine its cause. 10 WJAR
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A report released on May 12 showed that Rhode Island health care costs grew 7.8% in 2023 from $8.78 billion to $9.52 billion — driven by rising hospital prices and high-cost weight loss drugs. The report found that many residents delayed treatments and struggled to pay for food, heat and rent — officials call for more primary care investment to slow cost growth. The Providence Journal
