  • Yesterday, North Providence held a wreath laying ceremony at the Public Safety Complex (honoring fallen heroes) with Mayor Charles Lombardi and Police Chief Alfredo Ruggiero Jr. leading the tribute.  10 WJAR

  • Texas Roadhouse raised menu prices by 1.9% at its three local restaurants in early April amid inflation pressures + the chain also reported higher weekly sales while testing new ordering technology for faster service in Cranston, East Greenwich and North Smithfield.  The Providence Journal

CULTURE NEWS

  • Trágmar Ale Works in Bristol won a gold medal for its Irish Red Ale at the 2026 World Beer Cup, beating 72 entries. The win highlights the brewery and shows Rhode Island's rising craft beer scene.  The Boston Globe
  • Bravo confirmed on Monday, May 11 that the second season of The Real Housewives of RI will air, but cast changes remain uncertain as only some housewives expressed interest in returning (including Alicia Carmody, Ashley Iaconetti, and Jo-Ellen Tiberi) while others have not decided.  The Providence Journal
  • The controversial mural of slain Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska was removed Tuesday from downtown Providence following calls by city leaders and the Dark Lady bar — the artist said it will be reinstalled later in a new location on Federal Hill.  10 WJAR

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Governor Dan McKee's FY 2027 budget proposal will raise the top income tax rate from 5.99% to 8.99% on incomes over $1 million. A RIPEC report warns the increase may spur outmigration and weaken local business competitiveness while candidate Helena Foulkes supports the change as part of her economic plan.  Go Local Prov
  • A sewage spill on May 4 closed a key shellfishing area in the Providence River, causing quahoggers to lose valuable harvest days and roughly $450 per day (figures reported by local fishermen).   • Six Brown University scholars received prestigious fellowships on May 12 for graduate study; four undergraduates earned Goldwater Awards, a medical student joined the Oxford-Cambridge program, and a recent alumna became a Knight-Hennessy Scholar, setting her on a path to further research in her field.  Brown University

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Attorney General Peter F. Neronha sued the Quidnessett Country Club in Superior Court to require removal of its unauthorized seawall and restore the damaged coastline along Narragansett Bay. The suit alleges the club violated the Environmental Rights Act by destroying vegetation and limiting public tidal access.  The Boston Globe
  • A section of the East Bay Bike Path in East Providence is closed after a ruptured sewer pipe spilled 800,000 gallons of untreated sewage into Narragansett Bay. Repairs began Tuesday and officials say the path will reopen by late Friday + alternate routes are advised.  The Providence Journal

HEALTH NEWS

  • Brown University researchers developed a tiny worm model to test drugs for AHC (a rare neurogenetic disorder causing paralysis in children). The new method, reported on May 11, offers a fast, low-cost way to study gene mutations and screen potential treatments.  Brown University
  • A Brown University epidemiologist has created a map to track teams and fans for the 2026 World Cup following Rhode Island’s first measles case; officials plan to use the tool to monitor potential outbreaks + alert exposed community members at venues.  The Boston Globe

  • Track champion Henry Stockwell won gold in the 600m indoor meet and soon joined the Barrington tennis team, boosting the Eagles bid for a third consecutive state title. The team won 6 to 1 over South Kingstown on Monday and will host North Kingstown today.  The Providence Journal
