  • The Lemonade Stand festival starts today at 195 District Park in Providence with performances by Hawk in the Nest, Brooke Annibale, Margeaux Lynn & Corey Wrinn and features arts and craft vendors, food and drinks from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.  Rhode Island PBS

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Brown University on Thursday, May 14, a daylong National Labs Day brought together DOE scientists and over 150 community members to explore AI-driven breakthroughs in energy, materials and computing — the event featured poster sessions and discussions to spark future partnerships.  Brown University

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse has given over 300 speeches on climate change over several decades, urging local communities to stay alert to environmental challenges.  The Providence Journal
  • State officials announced that commercial shellfishing in area 16E will resume at 7 a.m. Monday after tests confirmed water and shellfish safety standards following an 800,000-gallon sewage spill near East Providence — the closure in Mt. Hope Bay was also lifted.  The Providence Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • Chariho's softball team improved to 19-0 with a 4-1 win over St. Raphael on Friday (standout pitcher Adriana Jeannenot led the team). The Chargers now need one win from their Wednesday game against the Clippers at Tucker Field to secure a playoff berth.  The Providence Journal
  • Moses Brown girls lacrosse beat undefeated East Greenwich 17-5 on Thursday, May 14 in a game that kept their state title hopes alive (the Quakers will fine-tune their play in upcoming Division I playoffs games).  The Providence Journal
  • High school sports got busy on Friday as Pilgrim softball staged a comeback win with a grand slam by Natalie Fratus to end a three-game skid. Regional baseball and softball contests produced close finishes and record pitching while teams competed in multiple games statewide.  The Providence Journal
