CRIME NEWS

  • Police responded to a reported assault at Dunkin' on Broad Street Saturday afternoon when a patron suffered a head injury from hitting the ground—detectives are still investigating and no arrests have been made.  10 WJAR
  • Providence police said Passion Lounge was closed for 72 hours after a shooting on May 17 sent a man to Rhode Island Hospital around 2 a.m., and the Board of Licenses ordered the closure for public safety while investigators probe the incident.  ABC 6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rhode Island and Massachusetts political leaders reacted to former President Biden’s announcement of metastatic prostate cancer on Sunday. Congressman Gabe Amo, Senator Ed Markey, Senator Elizabeth Warren and Governor Dan McKee expressed support and highlighted his long work on cancer research—emphasizing his experience with personal and national adversity.  10 WJAR
  • On May 18, Rhode Island officials said they sent support and prayers after former President Biden's cancer diagnosis. Gov. Dan McKee, Rep. Gabe Amo and Rep. Seth Magaziner expressed confidence in his strength — while keeping his family in their thoughts.  ABC 6

HEALTH NEWS

  • CODAC Behavioral Healthcare today opens a 21,000-square-foot community health center at 45 Royal Little Drive that offers primary care, addiction treatment, mental health services, a pharmacy, yoga classes, and a food pantry—helping residents get access to many needed services in one place. The center also partners with Neighborhood Health Plan, RIPTA, and federal agencies to remove barriers to care and support recovery.  The Providence Journal

  • At Slater Park on May 18, state boys tennis championships took place where Andrew Smith of La Salle won the singles title—Henry Birbiglia and Connor Meehan of Barrington won the doubles match.  The Providence Journal
  • Taunton—recognized as the best high school softball team in Rhode Island—defeated La Salle 7-4 when one powerful inning turned the game between the top teams from Rhode Island and Massachusetts.  The Providence Journal
  • On Sunday, Jonah Monnes pitched for South Kingstown as the Rebels beat the Sentinels 2-1 in a Division I baseball game—his strong showing this season has kept him at the top.  The Providence Journal
