  • Prince Blue, a 6-year-old grey pitbull, is available for adoption at Providence Animal Control and is looking for a forever home.  The Providence Journal
  • Providence’s Federal Hill will host Al Fresco on the Hill on Saturday, June 13 as restaurants expand outdoor dining by closing part of Atwells Avenue, though some remain concerned about parking and congestion amid World Cup crowds.  10 WJAR

  • Warwick-based Beacon Mutual Insurance notified over 131,000 Rhode Islanders that its systems were breached between January 7 and January 14, compromising names, Social Security and financial data. CULTURE NEWS

  • The free Summer Concert Series at Track 15 in downtown began on May 22, presenting local music every Friday from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The venue will host Waterfire Markets on May 30 for its 500th lighting and a watch party featuring Ghana and England on June 23.  Go Local Prov
  • Providence residents can plan a busy summer as Memorial Day parades take place Sunday and Monday in nearby towns and the 500th WaterFire lighting will happen May 30 in Providence (plus many music festivals and cultural events throughout the season).  The Boston Globe

  • Brown University will confer 3,288 degrees over Saturday and Sunday plus hold ceremonies at College Green, Pembroke Field, First Baptist Church, and First Unitarian Church. The milestone weekend includes alumni reunions plus other graduation activities.  Brown University

  • Health experts warn that the upcoming World Cup could bring a rise in measles, COVID-19, and influenza, as Dr. William Goedel and local responders boost testing (including wastewater monitoring) to detect outbreaks early.  10 WJAR
  • Brown Health faces deep losses after its Massachusetts acquisition and seeks state and philanthropic help to cover a $4.9M gap needed to keep Newport Hospital’s labor and delivery unit open indefinitely.
