ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Three days after the train derailed on May 29 near High Street and Titus Street in Cumberland, the railroad is back in service—cleanup crews are still on scene and investigators are looking into the cause.  10 WJAR

  • North Providence police are looking for 17-year-old Autumn Miranda who was reported missing on May 30, and she is 5'5, weighs 125 pounds, has brown eyes, long red hair with black streaks and was last seen wearing black, green and white Nike sneakers—if you have information, please call 401-231-4533 ext. 1118.  ABC 6

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students in Providence enjoyed hands-on math activities at the 'Math Matters' event on May 31—where they learned about different math opportunities. Governor Dan McKee, Education Commissioner Angelica Infante-Green, and local mayors attended as educators and parents also joined workshops.  10 WJAR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lt. Gov. Sabina Matos said she will run for reelection next year while working to fix food deserts, help immigrants, and address Providence tax issues. She warned that federal Medicaid cuts and restrictive supermarket rules hurt local families — challenges the state must face in the coming months.  The Public's Radio

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Gregory Woods, an addiction specialist in Providence, explained that commercial kratom ads mimic opioid marketing and warned that a local man developed severe dependence from kratom-infused drinks. He urged state lawmakers to maintain the statewide ban to protect public health—unregulated use may lead to more opioid-like addictions.  The Providence Journal
  • On Saturday, May 31st, energy bills nearly tripled in Rhode Island, putting seniors and individuals who rely on life-support equipment at grave risk. Local officials and the Public Utilities Commission have been urged to cap fees and offer discounted rates to help affected residents+ while addressing a healthcare crisis as primary care providers and home health agencies exit the state.  Go Local Prov

  • La Salle won a playoff game at Pepin Field by rallying from a 3 to 0 deficit to beat Bishop Hendricken 5 to 3—pushing the Rams into the winners' bracket. The team scored four runs in the fifth inning and sealed its win with a key double play in the sixth inning.  The Providence Journal
