COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Flea in the Park season kicked off in Providence Sunday morning at 195 District Park—featuring over 85 vendors selling food, bake shop treats, paintings and terrariums—and will run every Sunday through October from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.  ABC 6

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Saturday night, Providence firefighters rescued a dog from an apartment building fire on Gesler Street+ officials said the cause is under investigation.  10 WJAR

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Providence Mayor Brett Smiley proposed an 8% property tax levy increase—approved by the Rhode Island House on May 27—to address the city’s financial challenges. If the Senate approves the bill, new tax rates will take effect on July 1 and may raise bills differently by property type while giving seniors and veterans extra exemptions.  The Providence Journal

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Sunday, RIIL playoff games produced key wins in both baseball and softball as Chariho secured a spot in the Division II Pod 1 final with a 3—2 win while teams like Central, Pawtucket, and Tiverton advanced in their contests. Today’s schedule features Division I and II baseball finals from 4—4:30 p.m. and additional softball matchups as teams vie for their championship berths.  The Providence Journal
  • Providence Country Day boys tennis won the Division III championship on June 1 at Slater Park in Pawtucket — finishing a 13-1 season with a 4-0 win over Cranston East — and they now look ahead to competing at a higher level next season.  The Providence Journal
