- ➤ A British national from Northern Ireland pleaded guilty in federal court on Thursday to fraud, money laundering, and immigration charges after defrauding property owners in Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York by using multiple names—he is scheduled for sentencing on September 11. - ➤ The family of Sebastian Yidana questioned Pawtucket police about the June 8 shooting near Goff Avenue when officers fired after calls reported a man with a gun—his mother said he only held an orange toy gun, police later said it was a plastic replica, he remains hospitalized with surgery expected, and his arraignment is set for June 16 while Mayor Grebien promised a transparent investigation. - ➤ Gamm Theatre is reviving Tony Kushner’s AIDS-era play 'Angels in America Part One: Millennium Approaches' as part of its 40th anniversary bonus series—actors Haas Regen and Ben Steinfeld are rehearsing intense scenes with director Brian McEleney. - ➤ House Speaker Joseph Shekarchi disclosed a tentative settlement offering nearly $1.86 million for about 300 special needs students cut off from public school after turning 21—a lawsuit claimed the state ended their access to education too soon. The funds will pay for GED classes, tutoring, assistive devices or therapy and must still be approved by a judge. The Boston Globe

- ➤ A lawsuit filed in federal court on Friday alleges that the Rhode Island Department of Corrections ignored Native American inmates' requests to practice their religious traditions—such as burning sage and attending ceremonies—while other institutions offer proper accommodations. - ➤ Rhode Island's Traffic Tribunal reported that from Oct. 1st, 2024 to June 12th, more than 7,000 citations were issued when drivers illegally passed school buses monitored by cameras on about 150 Providence school buses. More than 6,700 of the violations occurred locally — fines range from $250 to $500. 10 WJAR
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Butler Hospital union workers held an hours-long sit-in on June 13 as part of their strike for a new contract—demanding better wages and safer work conditions. Hospital officials scheduled a bargaining session for Tuesday, June 17— and said they will welcome any employee who has not been replaced. 10 WJAR

- ➤ La Salle sophomore Brady Collins earned the 2025 Gatorade Rhode Island Baseball Player of the Year Award after batting .400, hitting five home runs, and driving in 19 runs—making him the first sophomore in state history to receive the honor while helping his team reach the state tournament semifinals.
