ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A driver died in a rollover crash on Interstate 95 South in Providence Sunday morning when one vehicle flipped over, was hit by two others—igniting a fire—and two other people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries while police investigated the scene.  ABC 6

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A new store called Loco Hot Deals opened Friday on Admiral Street in Providence and sells liquidated goods starting at $10, with prices set to drop daily to $1 by Wednesday. Customers have already visited to shop for electronics, clothes, and household items, and the store closes every Thursday to restock inventory—other locations serve West Hartford and the Bronx.  10 WJAR

CRIME NEWS

  • Providence Police responded at 11 p.m. on June 21 to a stabbing on Amherst Street where they found a man with a stab wound who was treated and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries — detectives continue to investigate.  ABC 6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rhode Island’s National Bridge Inventory data show that over 15% of the 783 inspected motor bridges are in poor condition—75 of them have been on the ‘Poor’ list for nearly a decade, with about half near Providence. RIDOT has repaired 290 bridges during Peter Alviti’s tenure and is now taking extra precautions with inspections as the costly Washington Bridge project moves forward.  The Public's Radio
  • Rhode Island lawmakers passed a bill to protect veterans from predatory for-profit claim consultants — Gov. McKee is expected to sign the law, which will go into effect on March 31. Pending federal legislation may weaken these protections by allowing fee-based services to continue.  The Providence Journal

  • Heart disease survivors who received stents meet every Friday at noon at India Point Park to share stories and support each other—building a group started five years ago during the pandemic.
