- ➤ Pawtucket police shot Sebastian Yidana on June 8 at Goff Avenue while he played with a toy gun, and the disabled man now faces felony assault charges (which could cost him his Section 8 housing and lead to up to three years in jail) as he recovers from a shattered shoulder. The Boston Globe

- ➤ Filming for the romantic thriller Remain wrapped up some scenes in Chepachet on Thursday, with actor Jake Gyllenhaal and Phoebe Dynevor leading a star-studded cast—crew worked near Tavern on the Main as director M. Night Shyamalan was also seen on set. Filming will finish in August. 10 WJAR

- ➤ Brown University is renovating Simmons Quad to add a terraced amphitheater and improved accessibility features such as a sloped pathway and an accessible entrance to Maxcy Hall - the donor-funded project will finish in Fall 2025 and offer a new outdoor space for learning and gatherings on campus. - ➤ Today, Providence City Council is mailing 'Know your Rights' postcards to over 62,000 households to guide residents on handling law enforcement and immigration agents—each bilingual card provides steps to follow and lists free legal aid while costing about $17,000. 10 WJAR
- ➤ Providence officials have proposed a new property tax plan that adjusts rates for single-family and multifamily homes following last year’s property reassessment—single-family homeowners may see an average increase of $243 while non-owner occupied multifamily homes could face a 13 percent rise. The plan, which will lower commercial property taxes by about $59 and keep bulky-item pickups free, must be approved by the City Council with residents invited to offer input on Monday at 5:30 p.m. The Boston Globe
- ➤ Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee signed a law on June 26th that bans the manufacture, purchase, sale, and transfer of certain assault-style weapons, with exemptions for licensed dealers and law enforcement. The law will take effect on July 1st, 2026 — advocates say the next step is to ban possession for fuller gun violence prevention. The Boston Globe
- ➤ Rhode Island Gov. Dan McKee said voters upset by the new state budget taxes should talk to their General Assembly members—he made the comment at a Smith Hill roundtable on June 25. The spending plan, which includes a 2-cent-per-gallon gas tax hike, new DMV fees for hybrid and electric cars, and a $48 surcharge on health insurance plans, will become law despite his refusal to sign it.
