ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Timmy Mouch, a 31-year-old, drowned last Tuesday night at Georgiaville Pond and his family met Sunday at the pond with memorial founder PJ Taylor—who said cold springs make swimmers freeze and sink—to demand answers while cold spring testing is planned for next week and a fundraiser is set at D’Angelo sandwich shop for funeral help.  10 WJAR
  • A 20-year-old man from West Warwick was hospitalized after a motorcycle crash in Lincoln on Sunday—he struck a guardrail while trying to make a turn on the ramp from northbound R.I. 146 to Interstate 296 south, and police said his injuries were serious.  10 WJAR

CRIME NEWS

  • On New Year's Eve 2023, U.S. Marine Edwin A. English died after a hit-and-run, and although a suspect was arrested and then released, city officials have made only small safety fixes on North Main Street—problems that persist because of confusing road layouts and aggressive panhandling.  Go Local Prov
  • The Lincoln Police arrested 25-year-old Emiliano Mendez on June 28 after stopping him for speeding in Manville where officers found drugs and a black Sig Sauer pistol — loaded with a high-capacity magazine — in his car.  ABC 6
  • Lincoln police arrested 25-year-old Emiliano Mendez on Saturday after stopping his speeding vehicle and discovering drugs, a digital scale, and a black Sig Sauer—he faces charges for drug possession, firearms violations, and related offenses.  10 WJAR
  • Police set up a scene near Crawford Street in Woonsocket on Sunday afternoon when an apparent shootout involved one individual alongside two others on motorcycles—no injuries were reported and one person was taken into custody.  ABC 6

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Jamestown’s strict water conservation rules left residents on Conanicut Island with unsafe drinking water and limited housing options. After legal challenges from affected homeowners including Christina DiMeglio, work has begun on extending the water main—an effort that may take years to fully restore municipal water service.  Rhode Island PBS

SPORTS NEWS

  • Newport Polo this summer features teams from Morocco, Scotland, Singapore, Jamaica, England, Italy, Australia and Ireland who borrow local horses instead of flying them by air. Many of these horses are retired racehorses and each match honors one as the Best Playing Pony—showing a unique local twist on the game.  The Providence Journal
