  • Volunteers paddled on Georgiaville Pond on Saturday to record water temperatures and locate cold springs believed to cause cramping that can lead to drownings—Patrick Taylor, who started a memorial near the pond, noted 25 drownings since 1866, including 19 in front of the island. He said the group will share its findings with officials so that swimmers can avoid the dangerous areas.  10 WJAR

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Providence Police Marine Unit crew rescued a man from the water near 25 Bridge Street on Friday night—he was taken to Rhode Island Hospital and remained conscious and alert.  10 WJAR
  • On Saturday, July 5, 2025, firefighters responded to a second alarm fire on Douglas Avenue in Providence—ABC 6 News crews reported that multiple emergency vehicles were seen and the home had exterior fire damage.  ABC 6
  • The Providence Fire Department responded to a fire at two multi-family homes on Douglas Avenue on July 5 — one home is uninhabitable and 11 people were displaced — with no injuries reported as the investigation into the cause continues.  10 WJAR

  • The first six months of 2025 brought drastic shifts to Rhode Island’s restaurant industry as Nicholas Schorsch’s group eyed the pending purchase of The Old Canteen and a local Italian restaurant chain planned major expansion while a study tied the Washington Bridge closure to a $114M hit and 1,300 hospitality jobs lost.   • Providence police arrested three people on July 4 after a large gathering on Smart Street led to a noise complaint—Kone Haziz and Lanaa Wilcox were charged with disorderly conduct and obstructing officers while Daunte Wilcox faced disorderly conduct and the property owner received an environmental summons.  ABC 6
