- ➤ After months of renovations, the historic Crescent Park Looff Carousel reopened on July 12—after being closed briefly by a storm on July 3. Built in 1895 by Charles Looff and now a National Historic Landmark, the carousel now serves summer events at Crescent Park such as the Summer Solstice Market. 10 WJAR
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Brown University engineers and public health experts developed a new test that uses a small blood sample to detect six opioids in adults with opioid use disorder and in newborns with opioid withdrawal. The automated system delivered more accurate results than traditional tests—helping doctors choose better treatment options. Brown University

- ➤ In July 1945, The Providence Journal reported that a 20-year-old left-handed hitter known as Joe Cusano played for Cranston's Firesafes while serving in the Navy — his secret alias kept his Yankees contract safe. - ➤ Rhode Island FC and Hartford Athletic ended their match at 0-0—Rhode Island has not scored since July 5 against Birmingham Legion. Coach Khano Smith said his team improved in the second half as the clubs will meet again on July 26. The Providence Journal
