CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Providence police investigated a Sunday night hit-and-run near 94 Mawney Street when a Dodge Charger allegedly ran a stop sign at about 9:58 p.m. and fled on foot, leaving two motorcyclists with serious injuries—one was critically injured and the other suffered potentially life-threatening wounds as they were taken to Rhode Island Hospital. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Providence got high marks from Food & Wine as one country’s next great food city because of its lively mix of fine dining and casual eats. Chef Sky Haneul Kim won Best Chef Northeast at Gift Horse—this year also saw four James Beard Award finalists and several local restaurants noted for their creative menus. The Providence Journal
- ➤ Pope Leo XIV declared a miracle at a Pawtucket hospital in 2007 after a baby with a slow heart rate recovered, and local Catholics said the news shows that God is close to us. Church leaders explained that the Vatican approved the miracle last month after a long review and said it highlights the power of prayer in our community. The Boston Globe

- ➤ Agencies including Portsmouth Police, State Police, RI DEM, and the U.S. Coast Guard will manage boat traffic for Aquapalooza at Prudence Island on July 26 as the event overlaps with the Newport Folk Festival, sailing regattas, and the Blessing of the Fleet. Murphy, who helped residents from her early work on the City Council through roles in the Mayor’s office and local congressional office, was celebrated by neighbors and former city leaders for her commitment to solving local issues—her work remains a model of community service.
