- ➤ Providence firefighters responded to an exterior building fire at 301 Reservoir Ave on Thursday night—taking about five minutes to control the blaze and reporting no injuries while the situation remains under investigation. 10 WJAR
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ CVS Health exceeded Wall Street expectations in the second quarter as prescription fills rose and its insurance business boosted revenue, leading the company to raise its full-year adjusted earnings forecast for 2025 to between $6.30 and $6.40. The Woonsocket-based firm (which owns Aetna) saw its shares jump nearly 8 percent in premarket trading on Thursday. The Boston Globe
- ➤ Desire Gentlemen’s Club has filed a lawsuit in Superior Court against Triggs Memorial Golf Course after a scheduling error on June 7 cost the club thousands by canceling a planned tournament that hired 36 entertainers and purchased hole-in-one insurance—The club claims the course's general manager, Augenstein, offered an alternate date of June 21 only after funds had been spent on the event. - ➤ Providence police are investigating a Wednesday night shooting on Geneva Street—officers arrived at 8:45 p.m. and found a 40-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his leg. ABC 6
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ RIDEM reported on July 21 that the state’s first mosquito carrying West Nile Virus for 2025 was detected in East Providence — officials advised residents to protect against bites by using bug spray and wearing long sleeves from dusk to dawn. ABC 6
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Rhode Island may face steep state costs after H.R. 1 cuts federal funding for Medicaid and SNAP, placing added pressure on programs that serve roughly 313,000 Medicaid and 114,000 SNAP recipients. The FY 2026 budget directs EOHHS to form an advisory group (recommendations due Oct. 31) to plan for state adjustments to the loss of federal support. The Boston Globe
