- ➤ At the Veterans Cemetery in Exeter, the Warriors Cairn Memorial was dedicated on July 26 to honor veterans with wooden chips for messages and design elements including a headstone, granite columns, a flagpole, and memorial benches. The project was started by Vietnam veterans—who raised over $30,000—and the group looks to younger veterans to help maintain the site in the future. The Providence Journal

- ➤ Uxbridge Police arrested a suspect on Aug 1 for a Woonsocket shooting—an officer saw North Smithfield police chasing a car on Route 146 before it crossed into Webster where Douglas police used stop-sticks to slow it, leading to a crash, drugs being thrown from the vehicle, extra charges, and two suspects being caught while one remains at large. - ➤ On Sunday at 3 a.m., a 24-year-old man was assaulted and robbed by six people on Tockwotton Street and Bridge Street — his three gold chains and a gold bracelet were taken before the suspects fled. ABC 6
- ➤ Providence police said a 24-year-old man was attacked by six men near Tockwotton and Bridge Streets at 3:27 a.m. Saturday—his gold chains and necklace were stolen— and the investigation continues. 10 WJAR

- ➤ A federal district judge dismissed a lawsuit from gun-rights advocates who challenged the attorney general’s discretion to issue open-carry permits to those who already held local concealed-carry licenses—Judge William Smith ruled that the state’s system meets constitutional requirements. The decision, issued on August 1, confirms that Rhode Island’s dual permit process remains in effect. The Providence Journal

- ➤ On July 25, GoLocal reported that a commercial real estate firm is marketing 21 properties for Brown University—Providence tax records show they are valued at over $30 million and most do not pay taxes. - ➤ Governor McKee held meetings at the Amica Mutual Pavilion to discuss relocating the Connecticut Sun to Providence while an investor group led by Steve Pagliuca—supported by Governor Healy—has offered to purchase the team to keep it in New England; the final decision rests with the WNBA Board of Governors.
