CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Ashley Corcoran, the girlfriend of alleged Ponzi schemer Christopher Aubin, denied any role in fraud after federal agents raided their Walpole home on May 15—she left with only the clothes on her back as luxury items were seized. Go Local Prov
- ➤ Rhode Island State Police executed a court-authorized search warrant Thursday at 98 Western Promenade in Cranston, seizing 55 grams of fentanyl, 10 grams of crack cocaine and a loaded 9mm semi-automatic firearm from Aaron Cabreja's vehicle—agents also found that the residence housed a state-licensed daycare with no children present, and he now faces multiple narcotics and firearms charges. - ➤ Providence arts organization AS220 is marking 40 years with Foo Fest, a block party that will run tomorrow from 1:00 p.m. to midnight on Empire Street—featuring music, art and creative programs. Founded in 1985, the center continues to offer uncensored art shows while navigating funding challenges. Rhode Island PBS
- ➤ Verdi Productions will premiere its romantic comedy 'The Roaring Game' on Aug. 9 at the Rhode Island International Film Festival — the film tells the story of a custodian who forms a curling team to win back his girlfriend. Cranston’s Tom DeNucci wrote and directed the film, which stars Mickey Rourke, Justin Chatwin and William Forsythe — the production features up to 300 extras and includes a cameo by former Patriot Rob Gronkowski. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Celtics’ Shamrock Foundation & Amica Insurance have pledged $4 million to retrofit a Manton Heights building into an early education center for 42 children, aiming to ease the child care shortage in Providence. The center will offer three classrooms & an outdoor play area and will operate for four years while subsidizing costs for local families. The Boston Globe
- ➤ Boston Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla, star Jayson Tatum + team president Rich Gotham attended the groundbreaking for the Shamrock Foundation Education Center in Manton Heights yesterday at noon. They joined Amica and Mayor Brett Smiley to mark the need for better education in low-income areas as the center is set to open in early 2026 with a block party following the ceremony. ABC 6
