ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Saturday, August 17, a brown horse named Pacino escaped its stable in North Kingstown around 6:45 p.m.—drivers slowed down to let it pass as the animal returned home safely.  10 WJAR

CRIME NEWS

  • Cranston Police and the Rhode Island Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested Jose Rivera on Aug. 15 when he allegedly threatened an 18-year-old by stealing a 9mm handgun during a retribution meeting after an assault at the Dominican Festival—he now faces charges of first degree robbery and larceny of a firearm.  ABC 6

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lincoln’s Hearthside House museum hosted the Summer of Love event at the Great Road Heritage Campus with 1960s Chevrolet Corvettes and music exhibits that recalled its past as a private home—organized by the Friends of Hearthside—and celebrated the historic legacy of the Mowbray residents.  10 WJAR
  • On Sunday, visitors picked sunflowers at Butterfly Farm in Lincoln as part of the annual Sunflower Fest started by owner Dan Flynn in 2019—25,000 sunflowers were planted on 5 acres. The festival will end August 23-24 from 9am to 3pm and features different vendors each weekend.  10 WJAR

  • Providence Mayor Brett Smiley launched a real-time crime center yesterday that uses security cameras and license plate readers to help police respond faster—its $1 million federal grant came from the previous administration.
