CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A truck crashed into a home on Newport Avenue in Pawtucket on Thursday evening with no injuries to residents while the driver, who sustained minor injuries, was taken into custody for suspected DUI—police reported the front wall was damaged. ABC 6
- ➤ Police in Warwick charged 19-year-old Atticus Edwards with felony assault and DUI after he is accused of intentionally hitting a 30-year-old woman twice with his car near the Apple Cinemas on Wednesday night+ eyewitnesses reported a 911 hang-up call. 10 WJAR

- ➤ The Theatre By The Sea musical 'Heartbreak Hotel' features energetic numbers with Joe Hebel as Elvis but reviews say the script is weak — the show runs through Sept. 14. The Boston Globe

- ➤ On Aug. 20, Brown University held a topping-off ceremony for Danoff Laboratories in the Jewelry District—this seven-story lab will open in spring 2027 to aid in life sciences research and health care. Leaders and community partners marked the milestone as construction continues on schedule. Brown University
- ➤ Brown University students have partnered with Hope High School through the DEEPS CORES program to offer hands-on Earth science lessons and college application help—providing students with paid internships and practical experience in STEM. The initiative has already increased student confidence and is opening new pathways for future science careers. Brown University
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Judge Frank Caprio’s funeral mass was held Friday at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul—local leaders and notable figures joined a procession at 11:30 a.m. before a private burial followed. ABC 6
- ➤ The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority board approved a new budget proposal to address an ongoing deficit—reducing Sunday and holiday service without cutting any routes completely. The changes will take effect on Saturday, September 27. ABC 6
- ➤ Judge Frank Caprio—known as the nicest judge in the world—received Rhode Island’s state funeral on Friday as Archbishop Richard Henning led the funeral mass and a procession along Atwells Avenue, and he was later laid to rest at St. Ann Cemetery in Cranston. Rhode Island PBS
