EDUCATION NEWS

  • Providence high schoolers earned real work experience as paid interns at Brown University through PrepareRI — a program that has connected about 300 students since 2018 with roles in collegiate athletics, science, and animal care.  Brown University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The MBTA and Keolis Commuter Services announced emergency repair schedule changes on the Franklin/Foxboro, Fairmount, and Providence/Stoughton lines that will begin on Sept. 2. Some inbound Franklin/Foxboro trains will run 20 minutes later while buses will replace service between Foxboro and Walpole on weekdays from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.—passengers should check updated schedules.  ABC 6

SPORTS NEWS

  • On August 30, Khano Smith of Rhode Island FC gave his opening statement after the team beat Charleston Battery—his remarks were shared with local media following the win.  The Providence Journal
  • On Aug 23, Serena Williams inducted Maria Sharapova into the International Tennis Hall of Fame near Newport Casino—Providence College announced that Carrie Underwood will headline its Late Night Madness event on Oct 4 at the Amica Mutual Pavilion as part of Friars basketball festivities. Federal officials halted the 80%-built Revolution Wind project off our coast on Aug 22 for national security reasons—local polls picked Rhode Island high school sports preseason MVPs and the New England Patriots are set for their first game on Sept 7.  The Providence Journal
