CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On Sunday, North Providence police stopped a speeding car on Mineral Spring Avenue and arrested 21 year old Trevon Plante—who lives in Woonsocket—for driving with a suspended license after finding a loaded Glock 20 handgun with the serial number removed, while the detective division investigates the weapon. - ➤ A URI student sued the school after a man recorded her while she showered in a unisex bathroom on April 29 in Adams Hall—she said the school hurt her reputation by misrepresenting her identity, and the man was arrested on a felony video voyeurism charge with a $2,000 bond. Go Local Prov
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Sept. 2, Brown University kicked off the Fall semester with a week of welcome events—over 3,200 new undergraduate, graduate and medical students joined activities at orientations and the Opening Convocation on College Green to start their campus life. Brown University
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Providence’s in-house parks design team customizes playground details like color schemes and plant choices to create unique play areas—Brassil Memorial Park on the East Side was renamed to honor Carolyn Brassil, the first woman elected to city council. The team also works on other local park projects that give each neighborhood a personalized touch. The Providence Journal
- ➤ RIPTA will cut more than 40 bus routes later this month to help fill a $10 million budget gap and will affect Providence riders who depend on the bus for work, school, and medical appointments. Transit advocates warn that these service cuts may lead to lower ridership—potentially sparking a decline in overall transit reliability. Rhode Island PBS
- ➤ The Cannabis Control Commission opened its online portal for six social equity cannabis retail licenses and asked eligible applicants to submit documents by Sept. 24.
