BUSINESS NEWS

  • Hasbro confirmed it will move its headquarters to Boston by the end of next year, ending its 101-year presence in Pawtucket. State and local leaders including Governor Dan McKee and Mayor Brett Smiley said the company misled them for a year—stringing them along while showing little interest in a competitive local offer.  The Boston Globe

CRIME NEWS

  • On Tuesday, September 9, a car struck a RIPTA bus carrying 12 students on Charles Street in Providence, causing five people—the bus driver, three students and the car driver—to be taken to hospital after the driver failed to yield; the driver was cited by police.  ABC 6

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Atlantic Shark Institute awarded three PhD candidates $10,000 each for research on sharks—projects cover spinner, deep-sea and porbeagle studies and include access to research vessels and tagging technology. The institute expects the findings to be published and help fill key gaps in marine conservation.  Go Local Prov

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Hasbro announced it would move its headquarters from Pawtucket to Boston by the end of 2026—Rhode Island leaders expressed sorrow and blamed a weak business climate for failing to retain the company despite new proposals to keep it in the state.  The Providence Journal
  • Tomorrow Fund is set to celebrate National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month with a ceremony at the State House on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m.—Gov. Dan McKee is expected to participate to support children with cancer and their families.  10 WJAR
  • Governor McKee released a digital ad at 7:15 a.m. that attacked Helena Foulkes—who will announce her run for governor Tuesday at the Roger Williams Park Casino—for her record as a CVS executive linked to the opioid crisis and 1,190 overdose deaths. Foulkes’ campaign declined to comment as the rematch in the governor’s race heats up.  The Boston Globe

HEALTH NEWS

  • At the Rhode Island State House on Monday, state officials held an event to mark 988 Day and raise awareness about the suicide prevention hotline that connects callers to trained counselors in about 1.9 seconds. Former Patriots linebacker Tully Banta-Cain said the hotline works like a teammate during tough times—offering hope and immediate support to those in crisis.  Rhode Island PBS
